Patrick Groneman: 100,000 Aspirations is a Unification of Purpose

theidproject.org

Patrick Groneman describes the 100,000 Aspiration Project as a“unification of purpose.”

He believes there is great power in group aspiration.

His aspiration? He aspires to live authentically and to help others do the same.

“I aspire to live authentically and help others do the same.”

Specifically, Patrick means to live honestly and not lie to himself, as well as not fool himself away from wisdom.

As the Executive Director of New York’s, The Interdependence Project, Patrick likes the 100,000 Aspiration Project because he believes that sometimes there are obstacles involved for people when being introduced to new things.

“There is a lot of cultural baggage in the way for many folks, so it’s almost like we’re translators and community builders,” he says.

What he means by this is that new things have preconceived notions already attached to them due to society, and so the IDP and our 100K Project work to make an engagement with new ideas easier and more comfortable for individuals.

Just as the Interdependence Project “brings a secular and highly accessible approach to studying and practicing Buddhist meditation, psychology and philosophy,” the 100,000 Aspiration Project is a gateway to allow and encourage people to realize their aspirations and give everyone a public outlet to do so.

“I think your project is a great way of actually engaging people in the practice of making an aspiration, and tapping into people’s desire to state those aspirations publicly,” Patrick says.

“Most of the time, life happens too quickly to really operate outside our patterns of habit,” he says. “Without changing our aspirations and intentions, there’s very little we can do to get out of a rut, because the force of habit is so strong.”

Self-awareness is needed, he says.

Patrick was especially moved by our inspired supporter, Anne Waldman’s aspiration:

“My aspiration is a nuclear, drone-free world, that takes care of its denizens and inspires artistic creativity in all directions of space.

A Stupa wakes the world up to itself. It is an Archive of our psyche, our imagination, an inscription of creativity and humanity. It is a memory bank and also a kind of enlightened “time bomb” that may set off dharma activity in further and future galaxies. Consciousness exists on many levels, and we are reminded of this by an architecture that reflects the wisdom mind. Let’s help create a world, a universe, without war and cruelty and torture and greed. Vow to help all sentient beings as well as ourselves. And the non-human ones — all that crawl, breathe and swim. It’s a vow to sanity. I hope we can participate in the creation of this next Stupa with expansive poetry and music and scintillating images, a poeisis of our speech, body and mind.”

“The whole project is full of inspiration. It’s a great work of art,” Patrick says.

A big thank you to Patrick for your kind words and time.

Inspired Supporter, teacher and musician, David Nichtern’s Aspiration

feat-nichtern

Inspired supporter, David Nichtern is a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

He is also a weekly blogger about Buddhism on The Huffington Post and works with his wife, Cyndi Lee (renowned yoga teacher and founder of the OM yoga Center in NYC) leading yoga/meditation workshops around the world.

“Somebody has to do sometime positive.”

On making his aspiration; “I cleared my mind, and I just went with my first thought,” he says.

His aspiration: “I aspire to soar higher, inspire, retire and expire.”

By soaring higher he means to uplift, to reach, to aspire to be the best. He compares it to the marines and how they are told to “be all that you can be.”

David stresses the importance of realizing one’s aspiration and acting on it. Every person only has a certain amount of time, a certain window of opportunity to do some good in the world.

“Recognizing an aspiration, and clarifying what it is, is a task in itself and it’s very important to fulfill. It’s a paramount intention. Measure your action against your intention.”

He believes the 100,000 aspirations project is very important for peace and bringing people together in peace.

“It’s better than bombing Iraq – a much better idea. The fact that people can be exposed to other people’s aspirations is, I think, very good and very encouraged.”

“If you don’t elevate your own situation, then you’re not much good to others.  But, if you get something going on and then share it, you’ll do more good,” he says on taking the initiative and beginning to work on your aspiration everyday.

Thanks, David, for your time and your aspiration.

“…It’s you beginning to make friends with oneself, not thinking it’s going to come from outside. As you know, we’re all looking outside of ourselves…to other people, we look all over the place to try to make ourselves feel good about ourselves.”

Inspired Supporter Susan Piver On Reaching 100k

piver

Susan Piver is confident that we will reach our goal of 100,000 Aspirations for the monument to peace.

Author of, The Wisdom of A Broken Heart, Susan says all beings are born with an aspiration.

“I know that there are 100 thousand people with aspirations, and that’s why I feel confident that you will reach your goal.”

Susan says many people feel like they might not have a meaningful outlet to share their wishes or dreams, and 100,000 Aspirations is a great solution for this.

“I feel like this is a time in our world when people have a longing to express their wishes.”

In this time in our world, however, people might feel silly to voice their wish for peace, she says, although if people knew there was a collective wish movement, then people would join.

“[100,000 Aspirations] is a great service, a great act of generosity because it’s an outlet for all of these aspirations for everyone in the world.”

Where Is My Guru Radio Show Feature

whereismyguru.com

On December 9, Where Is My Guru radio show will feature 100,000 Aspirations as well as Seane Corn, during a show that focuses on all things inspirational!

Where Is My Guru is an evolution of co-founder Jessica’s Travel Blog that focused on community and service. She says that the radio show is a more refined expression of this and can include anything that she wants to share with the world.

Where Is My Guru is co-hosted by Jessica and Diane, once a week. The title isn’t a question – it’s a statement that suggests that the Guru is always within you, you just have to realize this and find it.

Jessica says that 100,000 Aspirations and Where Is My Guru are similar in the way that each are focused on giving back and not just focusing on the bottom line. Good intentions and service radiate out and make the world a better place!

Faith Popcorn, a speaker Jessica saw at a recent conference, outlines where she thinks businesses are headed in the next ten years.

One key point from the presentation was about the qualities that businesses need to embody to stay ahead of the game in our super fast, changing world. These include not focusing on the bottom line, but instead giving back to communities, thinking about the small, personal things and focusing on what actions will change the world for the better in the long run.

This is what 100,000 Aspirations is all about! We focus on positive intentions and aspirations from people from across the world and from all communities,

Together we’re aiming for better lives and peace for everyone and everything.

Thanks to Where Is My Guru for featuring us!
